Burn, Re-Write, Re-Read

This is a play on F*ck, Marry, Kill where you choose 3 books at random and decide accordingly. This was a popular book tag a while back but I can’t remember where I saw it so I’m winging it here. I used the random sort option on Goodreads to see my shelf, then used the first 3 books in the results. I enjoyed all of these books, so this wasn’t easy but it was lots of fun, which is why I did 3 rounds.

Round 1

Burn:Good Girl Bad – I have a love-hate relationship with this story. I wouldn’t just toss it on the pyre normally, but since I have to pick one, it’s an easy choice. The MC wasn’t very likeable, and this story made me angry in a way, she was that horrible.

Re-Write: Lover – I really enjoyed this series when it was first released but an attempt to re-read it fell flat. The characters don’t have the depth to hold my attention again because what really pulled me into this story was the plot. I’d give them additional dimensions so that the characters were what draws in readers, not the suspense and surprises.

Re-Read:Contract With the Mafia Boss – What’s better than a fake relationship with a dark, broody hitman? The characters were both adorable and sizzling together. This is a fun story in a great series and I’ll definitely re-read.

Round 2

Burn: Tempest – This one was dark and a little twisted and I actually loved it but I liked the others slightly better so it drew the short straw.

Re-Write: The Unhoneymooners – A fake relationship, enemies to lovers holiday adventure has me written all over it, so I had to know what all the fuss is about here. It was fun to read, with likeable characters and plenty of humor. But it was also totally predictable and completely forgettable so it could definitely benefit from more depth to the characters and shaking up the storyline a little.

Re-Read: Ex Games – An ex’s brother fake relationship? Yes, please! And this one didn’t disappoint. Stella Rhys always gives us amazing characters and fun stories, the perfect balance of emotion and humor.

Round 3

Burn: Friends Without Benefits – This was a fine book, but it was super predictable and indistinguishable from many other friends to lovers stories.

Re-Write: Reined InI enjoyed this book in a lot of ways, but the h was frustrating and really mean to the H. I don’t need that kind of negativity in my life, so I’d tweak it a bit to brighten it up.

Re-Read:Doctor Scandalous – I almost skipped this one because billionaires aren’t my favorite but I’m so glad I gave it a chance. I loved this book AND it turned me on to a new-to-me author as well as a whole series. A series I greatly enjoyed, but this book is my favorite of the bunch. Oliver’s not a typical billionaire, he’s really more of a cinnamon roll and Amelia is a perfect h. This is an excellent book and a must-read if you love romance.

I really enjoyed this little exercise and look forward to doing it again soon. If anyone out there likes to play, please post a link in the comments, I’d love to read yours.
