Kingston Ashford.
An enigma.
The Ghost.
His skills are unparalleled. His motives clear. His lethality unquestionable. His only purpose is to obliterate the kingdom that had stolen more than his innocence from him.
Until he crosses paths with a ghost from his past and he’s drawn into the woman’s web. Liana Volkov. An ice princess with murderous plans. The unstable killer with the face of an angel.
Something big is happening in the belly of the underworld. Realities are shattered. A deadly game is played, tearing apart the kingdom from within the belly of the beast. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
The line between enemies and allies is blurred. Mysteries unravel. Histories clash. Desires consume. Nothing is as it seems.
A new reign is born.
We first met The Ghost in the Thorns of Omerta series and now we finally get his story. I’m happy to say, it was definitely worth the wait. We know Kingston was kidnapped, tortured and suffered greatly, but only in a vague sense, as there have never been any details. Here we find out exactly what happened to him and even see him re-living some of those dark days in his memories. His life was dark and painful and full of suffering, but for Louisa and Liana. Kingston was only twelve when Sophia Volkov made him her daughters’ bodyguard and he quickly developed a strong bond with the twins, especially Louisa. They grew up together in isolation, suffering at the hands of madmen and formed an incredible bond. But tragedy struck their young lives over and over. When Louisa was murdered, he snapped and hasn’t cared about much since he lost her, except for revenge.
Kingston’s entire life revolves around getting justice for Louisa, so he became one of the world’s deadliest hitmen, living in the shadows, untouchable, a ghost. There’s not much that affects him but discovering that Liana is alive and working with her mother is quite a shock. He never blamed her for Louisa’s death, but he’s disgusted that she’d work with Sophia, committing unspeakable crimes against innocents.
Liana doesn’t remember much, in fact, she doesn’t even remember Kingston. But little things slowly start coming back to her and nothing is as it seems. He thinks she’s helping the flesh traders, but Liana is working to free the trafficking victims, risking her own life every minute of every day to save strangers from the hell on earth her mother has created. There’s a strong attraction between them, but they both feel it’s wrong, knowing she’s Louisa’s twin and he’s the love of her sister’s life.
Their story is suspenseful and tense, with great banter and lots of heat. I’ve always liked Kingston but love him now. Liana was a complete mystery to me going into this, but I loved her immediately. She is an amazing badass and my new girl crush. I absolutely loved their story and can’t recommend it enough. I’d like to thank the author and The Author Agency for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
