I had spent my life trapped in a gilded cage, surrounded by villains.
The cruel man I was forced to marry saw me as a lesson to be taught, stripping away every piece of my spirit until all that remained was my shadow. He left me in darkness, alone, except for the one flicker of light in my miserable existence: my adoptive daughter.
Then they took her away from me too.
It didn’t kill me, but something deep inside me died that day.
Or so I thought.
Giovanni Agosti kidnapped me to “save” me, or so he claimed.
But I was done being a pawn in anyone’s game. I would show this captor, with his smoldering gaze and dangerous allure, that no one touched Liana Volkov without consequences.
Not even the man I found myself wanting.
I wasn’t sure what to expect from Liana’s story, but I’ve been waiting impatiently for it for what feels like forever. Well, it’s finally here and was certainly worth the wait. Gio and Liana were everything I wanted and more. She has been through hell more than once in various ways, but Liana is the ultimate survivor and a force to be reckoned with all on her own. Her life has been tragic and full of loss, brutal and unforgiving in every way, but she’s strong and poised and ready to burn the world.
Gio is the cartel head/mafia boss with a heart of gold hidden inside and I loved everything about him. He’s determined to save Liana, who doesn’t want or need his help, so they’re not fast friends, but that’s to be expected since he kidnapped her. She hasn’t been able to trust or depend on anyone since losing her sister, so Liana doesn’t open up to anyone, but Gio shows her he’s worthy and becomes her greatest champion.
There’s not much more I can say without being a spoiler, so I’ll just say this is a must-read whether you’ve read the rest of the series or not. I can’t get enough of Thorns of Omerta and these two are my favorite couple of the series, which is no small feat. I loved everything about their story and couldn’t put it down. This world is dark but that just makes the HEA even sweeter in my opinion and theirs is one of the best I’ve ever seen. I can’t recommend this book enough. I’d like to thank the author and Candi Kane PR for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
