Review: My Favorite Boss by Melanie Moreland

My new boss—Alexander Bane
Aptly named since he’s the bane of my existence.
Please isn’t in his vocabulary.
He grunts, growls, and demands.
If only he didn’t look so sexy when doing so.
If only his mouth weren’t so addictive when kissing mine.
He’s quickly becoming my favorite boss.
Which is wrong.
My new assistant is an unwelcomed distraction.
Snarky, witty, always smiling.
Constantly putting me in my place.
Making me second-guess my decisions.
I dislike it. Intensely.
Unless I’m kissing her.
Then Magnolia Myers becomes my favorite person.
Which I hate.
Two people working together, disliking each other.
Until they don’t.
Then the fun begins.
HR has never been so entertained.

Bane goes through assistants quicker than most of us change outfits so when Magnolia manages to impress him, he’s determined to keep her. Luckily for him, she really needs this job so she’s willing to put up with his grumpy, demanding attitude. They work well together, maybe a bit too well for HR’s comfort, as they soon can’t keep their hands off of one another. Their banter is top notch and I loved the way these two interact, both professionally and personally.

Magnolia is quirky, sweet and sharp, so she manages his work life seamlessly while keeping the man himself on his toes. He comes across as polished and professional at all times until we see him alone with her, then we get to know the real Alexander Bane. They’ve both got some baggage, making a relationship an intimidating prospect on its face, not to mention the complications of the whole boss-assistant thing but they manage it without a third-act breakup (yay!). Magnolia keeps his dragon-lady mother at bay, a feat no assistant before her has ever pulled off. Bane knows they’re playing with fire and goes out of his way to give her security because nobody needs to worry that breaking up with their boyfriend means losing their job.

These two get themselves into some crazy situations, including an oopsie with a latex allergy that really shouldn’t be as funny as it is but this book made me laugh out loud more than once. Their story is sweet and steamy and so much fun, I really loved it.
