Review: Relentless by Tracy Lorraine

He came to save me… but what he finds could destroy him.

I might have accomplished the impossible and walked back up those stairs.

But I wasn’t naïve. Freedom didn’t await.

Only more locked doors and nightmares.

My captivity means nothing now.

My hope is locked up in despair.

Because just like he promised, Mav came for me.

No one breaks into the Devil’s manor… and lives to tell the tale.

But since I’ve been here, I’ve learned a few things.

For the first time in my life, I’m the one with the power.

And I will do whatever it takes to protect my husband.

But things are different now.

They say the truth is meant to set you free, but that’s the last thing I want.

Because the truth is… the only man I’ve ever loved just might hate me as much as I hate myself for what I’ve been doing.

Who I’ve been working for.

I may have given my body to others, but my heart will only ever belong to Mav.

But will he want me when the rest of me is tarnished?

When he discovers that I’ve sold my soul to the devil, and reaped the benefits from his best friend?

I thought I knew exactly where this story was headed after devouring Merciless, but Tracy surprised me in the best possible way. This book gives us a lot more Maverick and so many reasons to love him. Alana and Mav together are fire, even more so than her with JD because these two are on a whole different level. They’ve been married for five years and together for even longer after all, so finding one another again is everything. There’s a lot they need to work through but JD proves to be instrumental in helping them come together in every way.

Of course, the heat in the house has Reid losing his mind and that’s so much fun to see. He’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders and refuses to crack under the pressure so seeing him break for the woman he kidnapped is seriously satisfying. Things are complicated for JD as well as his internal darkness threatens to take over but Alana is the light he needs to keep it together. Her goodness and strength build him up in ways nothing and no one else ever could.

It’s hard to say much about this book without giving away serious spoilers but I can say that there are more lighthearted moments than in the first book so it’s not as dark. It’s till dark, but not as much, mostly because Alana has Mav back. She doesn’t have to worry about Victor’s threats right now since Mav is safe with her for the time being. Being together again gives her new strength and more determination than ever. JD and Reid might be a bit jealous but they love seeing her happy and there’s no denying Mav does that in a big way.

Their contented little bubble is bound to burst though because they’re not safe for long so of course it ends on a painful cliffhanger but not as painful as the last. There’s more energy than ever and I can’t wait to see what happens next. I’d like to thank the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
