Crossing a line has never felt this good.
I’m what you’d call a good girl—at least that’s what my family thinks. But I’m tired of living by everyone else’s rules. So when I sneak into a scandalous, masked costume party and spot Beau Walker—my longtime crush and my family’s sworn enemy—I do something bold: I cross the one line that’s utterly forbidden.
Hidden by shadows and masks, we lose ourselves in the hottest night of my life. Until I accidentally moan his name, and everything comes crashing to a halt.
Beau says things I can’t forget, and my fantasy of him shatters along with my heart.
But when suspicious fires break out at the high school where I teach, I’m forced to see the one firefighter I wish I could forget.
And when our long-smoldering tension finally ignites, the heat between us lights up the sky—and reveals a danger neither of us saw coming.
Burning Skies is an enemies-to-lovers, forbidden romance that features a scorchingly hot firefighter and the little sister of his long-time nemesis. If you enjoy cowboy families, old vendettas, and small towns brimming with secrets, this one is for you!
Honey and Beau are natural enemies, being on opposite sides of the infamous McCallister-Walker family feud. Nobody seems to know what spawned the fight, but the families have been mortal enemies for generations. There’s even a reenactment during town festivals portraying Walkers and McCallisters shooting each other, so it’s not some silly little feud that’s going to blow over soon.
Despite all the bad blood, Honey had the biggest crush on Beau for years and was even lucky enough to act on it at a masquerade party in college. Things heated up fast, but he recognized her and put a stop to the canoodling. He got angry, Honey was humiliated and now they’ve been enemies for years. But eventually their history and the family troubles aren’t enough to put out the fire, so they finally give in and it’s amazing. But life is complicated and they don’t even like each other, so they agree it’s a one-time thing.
The trouble at school has the fire department coming out regularly so they can’t exactly avoid one another and they’re both surprised as they get to know each other. Honey isn’t the prissy, spoiled princess Beau expected. She works hard for her independence despite her family’s wealth and is finding her way out from under the controlling thumb of her father. He’s not the rough-around-the-edges cowboy she’d always believed him to be either. Beau is sweet and protective and cares for her, unlike most of the men in her life.
They fall fast but can’t simply be together because of her father and his attempts at an arranged marriage for Honey. There’s OM and OW drama on both sides, plus a bit of danger and suspense. I’m a sucker for forbidden love and this book does it so well. I loved these characters and everything about their story. I’d like to thank the author and The Author Agency for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
