My new roommates are two pro hockey players.
First, my f-boy of an older brother, and second, his seriously hot best friend (who I seriously hate).
This was a last resort.
No one should be sleeping on a futon that smells like Cheetos and man sweat.
But here I am, trying to get my life together.
Tristan Stiles is the bane of my existence.
He never wears a shirt.
We can’t seem to stop fighting.
He’s an arrogant playboy with a filthy reputation.
Sure, I had a crush on him when I was fourteen but that was a long time ago.
I know better than to trust him.
I just need to survive long enough to find a new job and get a new place.
And not accidentally let Tristan show me exactly how well deserved his reputation is.
Beatrix is going through some things so when she rage quits her annoying job and can’t take another minute of her nasty roommates, she ends up staying with her brother. She loves Flip and they get along great so being roomies temporarily shouldn’t be a big deal. Except she forgot about his roommate until it’s too late. Her brother’s lifelong best friend, Tristan Stiles is one of the hottest players in the NHL and her own longtime nemesis. They can’t even look at one another without tossing barbs, so living together is less than ideal.
It’s not a great situation but the recently dumped, unemployed and houseless Rix is up to the challenge of this very short-term arrangement. And to be honest, she doesn’t have any other options, so she’s resigned to coexisted with her enemy in relative peace. For about the first five minutes, then they fight nonstop. All that heat and energy ignites the sparks between them, and they can only fight it so long before giving in to the mutual attraction that’s plagued them for years. Rix mooned over him as a lovestruck fourteen-year-old and now she truly hates him but loves his body and his skills in the bedroom enough to overlook that and enjoy herself. These two were alternately cruel and explosively hot together, so I was never really sure what to expect next. They soften to each other a bit and even start getting along to an extent, but Tristan is so damaged that even their enemies with benefits arrangement involves too many emotions for his comfort. Every time they get closer or have a moment, he reacts badly, pushing her away and sabotaging things between them.
They both had rough childhoods and learned to do without, but while Rix’s trauma has her saving to splurge and price-matching her groceries, Tristan’s past did a lot more damage. He’s quick to anger and completely out of touch with his own emotions, so his frequent tantrums keep driving a wedge between them. They don’t know if they love each other or hate each other, but they’re fire together and can’t walk away. I really enjoyed Rix and Tristan’s story, especially the way it introduced their world and friends, giving us so much to forward to in setting up this whole new series. I’d like to thank the author and Good Girls PR for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
