Review: Shattered Dynasty by Ava Harrison

Trent Aldridge is the devil.

Rich. Arrogant. Sinfully handsome.

He holds my inheritance in his hands.

Twenty-two million dollars I didn’t even know about.

I met him at a funeral.

As one life ended, mine unraveled.

Because he has one goal—to ruin me.

And Trent Aldridge never loses.

My present is gone and my future is in ashes.

All because of a past that’s not even mine.

Control. Power.

He has it all now that I’m his maid.

He’s rude, sarcastic, and well…the hottest man I’ve ever met.

Lust is a dangerous game to play.

Where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

And I’m about to be consumed.

Trent Aldridge really is the devil, make no mistake about it. He’s an evil genius and pure venom disguised in a beautiful package. Payton has done absolutely nothing to draw his wrath. Even Trent admits that his father is the one who should suffer but since he’s dead and gone so beyond earthly suffering, Trent targets Payton as his father’s proxy. After all, she meant something to Ronald even though his own children did not so making her suffer is the next best thing and suffer she does. Trent waits until she lets her guard down then destroys her entire life in less than twenty-four hours.

He’s not even her biggest problem. Poor Payton assumes all of her troubles stem from Trent’s vengeance but there are other issues at play and she’s unaware. Threats come from multiple angles, including Trent’s enemies and she’s blissfully ignorant of the dangers lurking in every corner of her life. I loved Payton from the first page. I wanted to hate Trent at first but it’s impossible not to admire his diabolical creativity in torturing people. He’s cold, ruthless and pulls no punches but he’s not immune to Payton’s charms. It was fun watching him be pulled into her orbit, unable to fight it. This story is a super slow burn but the payoff is great and I love the suspense aspects of the plot. This author is new to me but I will definitely be reading more from her.
