Kylie
I learned early in life that love isn’t just given, it’s earned.
Now I’ve decided love isn’t worth it.
At least that type of love.
Until him.
He was broken.
It was safe.
But then I went and did the unexpected.
I fell in love with him, knowing he would never love me back.
Knox
I thought I had it all.
I was playing hockey in the NHL.
Three beautiful kids and a wife who loved me.
Until I walked in on her in bed with my brother-in-law.
Everything I thought I had was a lie.
She was everything I thought I didn’t want, and when I least expected it.
I just hope when I finally figure it out, I haven’t lost her for good.
Kylie and Knox really get off on the wrong foot the first time they meet and things only get more complicated every time they meet again. They’re drawn to one another yet abrasive to each other at the same time. Still, they can’t fight it for long and end up as what I can only describe as frenemies-with-benefits. I loved everything about these two. Knox thought he had the perfect life, playing hockey for a living and going home every day to his wife and children. The illusion ended the day he went home early to find his wife banging his sister’s husband.
He just wants to focus on hockey and his kids, not dating and definitely not a relationship. He can’t imagine trusting anyone again after that kind of betrayal, so dating and relationships aren’t in Knox’s plan for the future. Kylie is a kindred soul in that regard. Her longest relationship is measured in weeks, not months, because she doesn’t trust anyone with her heart.
Knox was broody and crass at first but that’s not really who he is, he’s just stressed about the divorce right now. He resents every lost moment with the kids because he doesn’t deserve to be punished. He didn’t cheat and destroy their family, yet he has to suffer endless consequences for his ex’s poor choices. Kylie is relaxed and self-assured on the outside, but far more vulnerable than she ever lets on. She wants to take a chance on Knox, but can she trust him with her heart? I loved these characters and everything about their story, highly recommended. I’d like to thank the author and The Author Agency for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
