Review: Try Me by Adriana Locke

“Try me.”

That’s what Drake Bennett said when I declared on my live podcast that no man could make me fall in love. The former pro football star turned sportscaster didn’t just laugh—he challenged my entire brand.

Gianna Knows Best is built on the idea that love is a choice. Drake says it’s a feeling—a magical, uncontrollable, world-shifting experience.

I call BS. He says I’m scared.

The audacity.

So, we make a bet. Six weeks of dating … in front of millions of listeners. If I don’t fall for him, I win. If I do … don’t worry. Not going to happen.

I expected spicy nights and viral ratings. What I didn’t expect was thoughtful surprises, spontaneous affection, and moments that make my heart do strange things.

Drake isn’t who I thought he was, and I can’t tell what scares me more: that he’s been playing me all along or that I’m wrong about love. Either way, someone’s about to get hurt—and I hope it’s not me.

I loved Gianna in Astrid’s book, Play Me, and she did not disappoint as the star of the show here. Outspoken and unapologetic, she believes love is a choice we are free to decline and she’s built a very successful podcast around her no-nonsense brand. Her coworker Drake Bennett takes offense to Gianna’s unromantic worldview. He calls her Dream Crusher because that’s basically what she’s doing on her show, telling most callers to pack their bags and dump the zero. Drake knows he can change Gianna’s mind, and he’s determined to prove it to her, so they agree to date for six weeks and see what happens.

Gianna thought she had Drake all figured out, but he kept surprising her. I loved these characters so much. Gianna was funny and strong and outspoken, and I loved everything about her, she’s just so much fun. Drake was sweet and caring with a dirty mouth and a snarky sense of humor. He was absolutely perfect for Gianna and the banter was too good. This one is a lot of fun with plenty of heat and even more heart, and I couldn’t put it down. I’d like to thank the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
