Review: At First Flight by Renee Harless

Lila Wright never expected to flee her dress fitting covered in a cloud of lace—let alone land in a first-class seat next to the most gorgeous man she’s ever seen. With mascara-streaked cheeks, a shattered heart, and no plan beyond “anywhere but here,” she spills her secrets to the stranger with the sharp jawline and stormy eyes. She expects a little sympathy. She doesn’t expect a two-week, all-expenses-paid escape on his dime.

Dean Harrington isn’t just any passenger. He’s a man with a heart locked up tighter than his family’s luxury yacht empire. The reclusive billionaire isn’t in the mood for small talk—until the runaway bride beside him turns out to be as intriguing as she is unfiltered. She’s beautiful, chaotic, and clearly a flight risk. But somehow, she puts him at ease. That is, until they land—and he discovers he’s now the full-time guardian of his niece and nephew.

By a twist of fate, Lila’s no longer just a fleeting encounter—she’s the nanny he hires from a small-town agency.
And he’s her brooding, infuriatingly hot boss.

Forced under one roof in his bayside home, a temporary arrangement soon spirals into something far more complicated. Between sizzling tension and curious kids who want their uncle to be happy, Lila and Dean are on a collision course with feelings neither saw coming.

But sometimes love shows up uninvited—35,000 feet in the air.

*Each book in the Coral Bell Cove series can be read as a standalone*

The timing couldn’t be worse on Lila’s wedding day when she discovers that her fiancé is already married. She’s not even sure why she’s surprised since he’s cold and controlling and clearly not the man for her. She flees in her wedding dress and hops on a plane to Scotland with no real plan except to distance herself from the man she almost married. As fate would have it, she’s seated next to a gorgeous man who’s even sweeter than he is handsome, so Dean’s company helps her settle her nerves and pass the time in flight.

He even buys her an outfit when her card is unsurprisingly declined at the airport. An emergency takes him away from his trip so he’s back on a plane to America almost as soon as they land in Scotland, but he’s determined not to let this woman forget him or forget her own worth. Dean knew upon meeting Lila that there was something special there, but life got in the way, and he’ll never see her again, to his disappointment.

They’re both shocked when he hires a nanny to help with the niblings he just inherited after his sister’s sudden death and it’s Lila. That’s not even her job, she only took the job to help her mom’s business because they didn’t have an available nanny for the new family in town. Dean knows they were meant to be, but Lila isn’t so sure. She lost herself completely in her last relationship and doesn’t seem to know exactly who she is or what she wants anymore. This is a sweet slow-burn and I loved every minute of it. I’d like to thank the author and The Author Agency for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
