ARC Review: A Little Taste by Tia Louise

Aiden Stone is a six-foot-two former Marine with a permanent scowl, dark hair, and dreamy blue eyes.

He’s the oldest of the Stone brothers, and his “by the book” family has battled mine for control of our small town for generations.

The last thing I should do is sleep with him. Or nearly run him down with my truck. Especially since he’s sort-of my new boss…

It doesn’t help that my grandmother (the mayor) is a former magician, and my mom is a psychic (sort-of)… And my dad died in a failed escape-artist attempt (that my mother is convinced was a murder).

Trust me, I know crazy, but I’m just plain ole Britt Bailey, Shania Twain-loving, non-magical forensic photographer. Yes, I take pictures of dead things, but I don’t see them in my bedroom at night.

I only want to see one thing in my bedroom at night, and when I’m called home to help Sheriff Stone on an investigation, he actually stops frowning for a minute, and my teenage fantasies get very real.

It’s a terrible idea. We work together, he’s seven years older than me, he’s a single dad, he hates all things magic, but a little taste, and we can’t say no.

Until the town crime wave turns personal, putting everything on the line, and we’ll need more than a magic bullet to get our happily ever after.

Britt is a forensic photographer who left home, eager to escapes her family’s checkered history in the small town they call home. She doesn’t believe in magic and doesn’t want to have anything to do with the family business, for lack of a better term. She’s been steadfast in her resolve to create a life elsewhere, even if it isn’t going exactly as planned, but this time she can’t say no when her family begs her to come back. Things aren’t going well in Eureka. In fact, there’s a crime wave happening and the town needs her skills. Britt agrees to return temporarily, to help save the town, but only on her own terms. She’s equal parts giddy and scared to assist broody sheriff Aiden Stone, a man she’s wanted forever.

The seven-year age gap never bothered Britt, so she’s been lusting after the sheriff for years. Aiden would be lying if he said the attraction wasn’t mutual; She’s perfect in his eyes and he’s noticed her for years. But he’s determined not to act on it. He’s got his hands full with his job and his seven-year-old son, Owen. As much as he might want to get to know her better, Aiden will never open himself up to that kind of pain again. He’d been burned once so he’s determined to guard his heart.

He didn’t count on her being irresistible or so damn impressive in the field. He didn’t foresee Owen falling instantly in love with Britt and her dog. She didn’t come her looking for love, but Britt’s not about to resist her teenage fantasy man, especially since he’s only gotten better with age. But when her family wants her to keep a secret that could come between them, she has a choice to make and isn’t sure which one is the right one.

Aiden and Britt’s story is a sweet small-town romance full of humor and heart, with the perfect balance of suspense and heat. I loved everything about it, from the adorable child to the zebra facts, and everything in between, like the hero dog and fun supporting cast. I received an ARC from Grey’s Promotions in exchange for an honest review.
