Review: Shattered Sea by Catherine Cowles

I’ve known every kind of pain. Of the heart. Of the body. Of the soul. All I want now is the freedom that comes from making my art.

The last thing I expected was Hollywood royalty to waltz into my gallery in a small town in the middle of nowhere and see me.

A man like Boden Cavanaugh shouldn’t understand me. Shouldn’t be able to soothe my most ragged edges. Even worse, he makes me want the one thing I can’t have. Him.

All it takes is one spark, and friendship catches flame. But as our attraction burns bright, there are forces desperate to send us back into the darkness. And they’ve already killed before…

This series is a favorite and I’ve loved every story, every couple and every plot. But Laiken and Boden steal the show. She’s lived through things that nobody should ever experience and she suffers for it every single day. Laiken suffers survivor guilt, she’ll never heal physically and she lost everything that night: her love, her health and her friends. It affects every aspect of her life even ten years later but she holds her head high and never complains.

Boden appears to have it all but he’s struggling with loss, guilt and a demon of his own so her sadness calls to him. She doesn’t have a great support system, but she has her friends and they’re enough, until he comes along. These two broke my heart but put it back together. They’ve both been through so much but they’re not bitter or angry, they’re joyful and full of love and so deserving of one another. Their story begins in a dark place but together they create their own light. It’s happy and sad and steamy with just enough suspense and I loved everything about it. I received an ARC from Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review.

PS – Make sure to get the bonus scene, it will make your heart so happy!
