He took me as collateral to ensure my ex-fiancé kept the deal they made.
But since then, Lev Zarkov has become so much more than the devil I thought he was.
And now his baby is growing in my belly.
I don’t want to leave him, but after one devastating night blows up our life, I know I have my baby to think about.
I tell myself that leaving is the right thing to do. But waking up without Lev in the middle of the night is pure midnight poison.
I miss his touch. His smell. The warm, comforting way he would hold me in his arms and let me know how much he wanted me.
But that isn’t the man who comes after me.
He’s angry. He’s formidable. He’s hurt.
And now that he’s found me, he’s going to make me pay for breaking his heart.
But there is a danger lurking in the shadows.
And we’ll have to put our differences aside long enough to fight the invisible threat that could destroy everything.
Midnight Poison is book two in the Zarkov duet and concludes Brooke & Lev’s story.
The conclusion to Lev and Brooke’s story was everything I wanted. This is romantic and spicy with some heart and a bit of suspense so all of the things. Fortunately, I am late to this duet so there was no painful wait for the second book or that cliffhanger would have been brutal. See my review of Bratva Lullaby for the beginning of their story.
The pace of the mafia war really picked up at the end of the first part and it continues to amp up. This is dark at times but not too dark and worth every minute, with lots of twists and turns. We get to know more about Brooke’s friends and her life as it was before but it’s clear she wants to remain a part of Lev’s world even though that won’t be simple.
Lev is the quintessential Pakhan, protecting his empire and meting out justice to those who threaten his world and I was so there for it. This kept me turning pages and up way past my bedtime but I didn’t mind one bit. The author was new to me when I started this duet but I will definitely be attacking her backlog because I couldn’t get enough of Brooke and Lev’s story.
