Review: My Favorite Hero by Melanie Moreland

In a house full of rules, the only one they can’t follow… is staying away.

Jesse Thorne

Local hero, firefighter, loner, and now grumpy landlord.

She wasn’t what he expected.

His new tenant is a walking disaster wrapped in sunshine, breaking every rule he sets and driving him insane.

Controlling her? Impossible.

Ignoring her? Even harder.

And he’s not sure he can stop it.

She’s under his skin, melting his frozen walls, and making him question everything—including his stubborn heart.

Casey Lawson

Roamer, IT specialist, current tenant, and golden ray of trouble.

Her new landlord is a thorn in her side with his never-ending house rules.

He’s always there when things go wrong—rescuing her with his strong arms and that sexy, smug smile. Breaking down her defenses, one gesture, one growl at a time.

They love to argue, but the chemistry between them is undeniable.

And when they give in, it’s explosive.

Can they escape the fire without getting burned?

This book is one of the best I’ve read all year. It’s funny, sweet, low-angst and I just loved these characters. Jesse is expecting a new tenant, some guy who works from home, but he’s shocked when the new guy shows up early, breaks into his house and isn’t a guy. Casey wasn’t planning on meeting her new landlord butt-first while stuck in the window of her new rental, but that’s exactly how they meet. They butt heads at first (no pun intended) because Casey is colorful chaos hitting his home like a cyclone, while Jesse prefers muted neutrals and minimalism. Her windchimes in particular offend his very being and must be eradicated. Casey is stubborn and not one to follow orders, so she loves to push back when he tells her what to do.

Despite their differences, they become begrudging friends of sorts as they fight the attraction simmering between them. They share a mutual friend who made a profound impact on both of their lives and Lou seems to have orchestrated their introduction, so I enjoyed learning about her life and how much she meant to both of them. I loved their story very much. The characters are adorable, there’s a dog-cat bromance and these two bring the heat. What more can you possibly ask for? I’d like to thank the author and The Author Agency for providing an ALC in exchange for an honest review.
