Review: The Situation by Adriana Locke

Someone should tell Tate Brewer that one-night stands aren’t supposed to come with a sequel.

I’ve learned the hard way—don’t be reckless with anything, least of all my heart. But after one too many vodka sodas, saying yes to a much younger, devastatingly smooth stranger for one wild night seems like the perfect way to forget my brutal divorce. I even gave him a fake name. What could go wrong?

You’d be surprised.

Because instead of being my spicy little secret, Tate is now the chief marketing officer at my new job. He’s determined to prove our night together was only the beginning—and he has the tools to do it.

Chiseled jaw. Washboard abs. Effortless charm. He knows exactly how to get under my skin, melt my defenses, and keep me coming back for more.

I wanted a one-night stand. Instead, I got a full-blown situation. I should run and protect myself. But when he looks at me like I’m his whole world, I’m not sure I remember how.

I knew Tate’s story would be worth the wait and this did not disappoint. He’s a man who knows what he wants and goes after it, so Aurora is no exception. It was luck being seated by this gorgeous woman on a plane, but it was skill that gets her to have dinner with him and charm that leads to the hottest night of his life. The last thing Tate expects is to wake up alone in the morning, his mystery woman gone without a trace. Well, not entirely. She left a note that said ‘call me’ but didn’t give him her number, so he isn’t sure what to think.

Aurora would love more time with the delicious stranger she met just yesterday, but it’s not in the cards. She just got out of an abusive marriage and needs time to herself, so a relationship isn’t on the table. Even a situationship is a no, things are just too complicated and she needs to regroup. A work emergency gives her an easy excuse to sneak away while Tate sleeps, which helps to relieve the guilt, but it does nothing for the regret. She’s not expecting to run into him again, so when he turns up as the new boss at her amazing new job, the one that means the world to her, she’s shocked and concerned about what this means for her career.

Tate’s way ahead of her though, having installed himself as the new boss specifically so he can be close to Aurora. He’s determined to make her see how perfect they are for each other, even as she does her best to resist. But to Aurora’s dismay, Tate isn’t exactly the kind of guy you walk away from, not for a second time at least. I loved everything about these characters and their story. It’s bittersweet since the series is over, but this was a great ending, and I loved every minute of it. I’d like to thank the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
