Review: If You Need Me by Helena Hunting

I’ve been secretly in love with Wilhelmina Reddi-Grinst since the third grade.

I should be the one taking her to our small-town high school reunion. The prom king finally gets his chance with the valedictorian.
Except she hates me.

To the world, I’m a pro hockey player with a million dollar smile.
To Hemi, I’m the menace who (accidentally) sank her bike to the bottom of the lake.

I never thought I’d be able to right my wrongs until she took the team’s PR job.
I’d hoped I was making progress, winning her over—one geriatric polka party at a time.

Until I got drunk one night and made a mistake. A very big mistake.
Now the world thinks we’re both very much in love—except Hemi is absolutely in loathe.

To save our jobs and reputations, we have to convince all our friends, family, and bosses that our fake relationship is the real deal.

I’ll do anything to protect her, especially if it means I get to be the best boyfriend Hemi never expected.

Dallas has been in love with Hemi since they were kids, but she loathes the man and no matter what he does to endear himself to her, he always seems to make her angry. He understands it’s his burden to bear and she’ll never know the truth, yet he can’t help but wonder how things would change if Hemi knew the real him. Would she be in love with him right back? It’s a question he’s wrestled with for years and in a weak moment, he tells the world they’re dating. They’re not dating. They have never dated. In fact, Hemi can’t stand to look at his stupid gorgeous face. He’s a constant reminder of the heartbreak she felt as a helpless teen when Dallas and his friends were the cool kids and not very nice.

She goes along with it at first, to save face, but when Dallas ups the ante, Hemi isn’t sure if she loves that or hates it. Being forced to spend time with him would have once been her worst nightmare, but it doesn’t take long before Dallas starts to grow on her, since he’s the biggest golden retriever. Hemi gives off a touch of black cat vibe so it’s fun seeing her react to Dallas’ undying devotion, especially since she’s got such a grudge. There’s a fun supporting cast of family, friends and teammates, bringing a lot of comic relief but I really loved the MCs.

They’re my favorite couple of the series so far and I loved the way Dallas got tired of wondering ‘what if” and decided to find out for sure. Hemi isn’t a fly-by-the-seat-of-her-pants type at all, so she couldn’t relate to him much at first, but that changed as she got to know him. I loved their story and couldn’t put this book down. I’d like to thank the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
