Review: Jock Blocked by Pippa Grant

“I’m a hot mess.”
“You’re a spicy taco with extra guacamole.”

You know those stories where an unlikely hero steps up to save a ragtag bunch of lovable losers from their fate of continuing to be the worst team to ever sports in the history of sportsing?

That’s all I’ve wanted for my hometown team, the Fireballs, for years. I’m their biggest fan, and I would do anything to support them. How could I not, when their baseball field is the one place I feel like I belong?

Enter Brooks Elliott. Baseball’s hottest slugger is our newest player, and he should be that hero we’ve been looking for. But when I find out what he really wants this year—which is not for the Fireballs to win—I realize I have to stop him.

No matter what it takes. Who might get hurt. And how much I start to like him along the way.

What’s a girl to do when she has to choose between the team of her heart and the man of her dreams?

Jock Blocked is a home run of a feel-good romantic comedy featuring the world’s most superstitious sports fan, baseball’s oldest virgin hero, a rogue meatball, an adorable puppy with a cussing problem, and the best lovable losers. It stands alone and comes with a happily ever after more satisfying than a game-winning grand slam.

This is one of the funniest romances I have ever read and will instantly make you fall in love with the author if you’re not already a huge fangirl. Mackenzie is the Fireballs biggest fan and she’s crazy superstitious so one tiny morsel of gossip turns her whole world upside down. Baseball phenom Brooks Elliot was just traded to the Fireballs and the team should be improving by leaps and bounds, but they’re still the worst team in baseball. His sister once let it slip that Brooks is a virgin and CAN’T lose his V card because getting frisky tanks his swing. That’s right, if he uses his mojo on the ladies, he loses it on the field. As a result, he’s likely the only thirty-year-old virgin in baseball. So, when Mackenzie overhears Brooks trying to hook up, she gets in the way to ruin his plans.

He clearly doesn’t care about the team if he’s ready to stop abstaining but she will not let him tank the season. Mackenzie takes it upon herself to cock block Brooks and prevent him from realizing his plan. She’s a little bit crazy – ok, A LOT crazy – but she means well and she is extremely determined. This leads to multiple problems for Brooks, not the least of which is that he doesn’t want to be a thirty-year-old virgin anymore, especially not for a team he doesn’t care about and a sport he no longer loves. He plans to beat Mackenzie at her own game by coming on to her until he scares her away for good.

These two are one of my absolute favorite couples in any book ever. They’re both unique and loveable and so much fun. There’s a lot going on around them as well with the team’s new ownership and the mascot competition that’s become a major part of Mackenzie’s life as she fights to bring back the former mascot who was perfect for the team, waging a campaign to prevent the crowning of a new mascot. There’s a rogue meatball on the loose, a zany supporting cast and an adorable puppy, not to mention the drag queens and an anatomically incorrect firefly flitting its way into Brooks’ nightmares. This book also has one of the best epilogues in the history of epilogues and I don’t want to give away any spoilers so I’ll just say ‘Fiery Forever’! IYKYK
