Review: The Accidental Dating Experiment by Lauren Blakely

I’ve spent the better part of eight years resisting my best friend’s little sister. What’s one more week? The hardest week ever when it includes a proposition to be her dating coach.

Eight years ago I fell into a secret summer fling with the bright, big-hearted Juliet before our lives went in different directions.

Now, I’m the grumpy to her sunshine on a popular dating podcast we host, and when a wealthy fan gives us a charming coastal cottage as the biggest thank you ever, we head to the town where I grew up to give it a makeover.

And find the house has only one bed.

Located under a mirrored ceiling.

To make matters even harder, the woman I’ve been pining for tells me she wants to try to find the one and would I please be her dating coach for the week?

Like hell I’ll let her date other men. I’ll coach her on three dates with me.

But the second I take her out, I don’t feel like her teacher. I feel like she’s mine, especially when the first night ends with us tangled up together in that bed.

Each night we grow closer, but this dating experiment forces me to face my greatest fear – whether a man like me is worthy of her love.

Even though I’m already head over heels for her.

The characters are relatable and instantly likeable, so that had me hooked from the first page. Juliet is unlucky in love and co-hosts a podcast where she shares her experiences with dating apps and lots of awful first dates. The co-host is Monroe, a therapist who also happens to be her brother’s best friend. These two once spent an unforgettable week together but he was moving across the country for medical school so they said goodbye and have since just pretended it never happened. But years later, they both still think of that week often.

When they’re gifted a house by their biggest fan, they head to the town where Monroe grew up, intending to sell it. Monroe can finally pay off all his medical school loans and they’ll finally have the funds to expand the podcast. It’s a little strange to see all the mirrored ceilings and share an adult-size bunk bed but they’re on a mission so they can deal. Until they can’t. This house is built for lovin’ and they’re quickly falling under its spell – or maybe they’re just falling for each other.

Juliet asks Monroe to be her dating coach and he agrees, although he has no intention of letting her date anyone else. Their chemistry is off the charts so it’s wild that they’ve managed to share the podcast and spend so much time together discussing dating and relationships without ever really acknowledging their feelings for one another, even to themselves. The banter is amazing, the characters are loveable and their story is so much fun, I loved everything about this book. I’d like to thank the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
