Review: Cruel King of New York by Siobhan Davis

The boy I grew up loving is now the made man who broke my heart.

I had one primary goal in life: to marry Don Caleb Accardi, give him lots of babies, and live happily ever after.

Until he shattered my fantasy and destroyed my belief in love.

His playboy status isn’t the issue. I learned to live with his womanizing while patiently waiting on the sideline for him to truly notice me.

But he never has. Not the way I want him to.

One promise. That’s all I asked of him, and he couldn’t even keep it.

Something inside me dies when I learn the truth, and I reach my breaking point.

This is the last time he hurts me.

I’m not saving myself for him anymore.

So, I cut him out of my life and begin dating.

Caleb sure doesn’t like that, and a switch has flipped in his brain.

Now, he wants me. And he’s pulling out all the stops to win back my heart.

Too bad it’s too late—for him and for me.

Because Caleb has powerful enemies who are aware he loves me, and now I’m fair game.

This is book one of two and it cannot be read as a stand-alone.

I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next and I was not disappointed. Elisa has been in love with Caleb for most of her life. She was eight years old when they first met but she’s always been sure he’s the man for her. Five years older, Caleb has only ever seen her as a friend, although now that they’re adults, he can’t help but be attracted to his beautiful friend. She’s far too good for him though and deserves a better man, so he’d never act on that attraction. Caleb is a complete man whore and Elisa is the sweet virgin who’s been saving herself for him, until he blows up their friendship completely.

She shut him out months ago and Caleb has no idea what he’s done to make her turn her back on him. Elise won’t tell him either. But seeing her with her douchey boyfriend is all it takes for Caleb’s resolve to finally snap. Now he’ll stop at nothing to get his girl, but will he be able to convince her that he really is the man for her? I wasn’t Caleb’s biggest fan because he was a troubled kid who made his mother’s life hard and the way he behaved in Joshua and Gia’s story sure didn’t endear him to me. I wondered if he was even redeemable at the beginning of this book but Caleb quickly won me over. There’s a total romantic with a huge heart underneath that rough exterior.

He’s formed a strong bond with Gia, but being tight with Elisa’s bestie doesn’t do him any favors, as she’s the first to put him in his place. Elisa surprised me too, being so much stronger and tougher than I expected at first. This is a perfect blend of action, suspense and steamy, lovey goodness. I really loved Cold King of New York but Caleb and Elisa’s story is even better. This is one of my absolute favorites from the author and one I’ll definitely read again; it was just that good. I’d like to thank the author and Literally Yours PR for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
