Mini Reviews

I read a lot of books, too many to review them all, but I always leave at least a short review/rating on retail sites and Goodreads when I’ve enjoyed a book. Those are critical for authors that I would feel terrible for skipping it. They’re not detailed enough to post on their own, but Rolé over at Hooked By That Book inspired me with her Quickie Reviews feature, so I’m sharing some here for the first time.

Nobody writes shifters like Renee Rose, so I needed this book before I finished reading the blurb. Spoiler: I bought the entire series and I’m so glad I did. This is Boyd is a champion bull rider enamored with the pretty new doctor on the circuit, but he should avoid her, so she doesn’t see that it healed pretty much instantly. His wolf insists that Audrey is his mate, but that can’t be since she’s human. He’s all tangled up, afraid of disappointing his brother and letting the pack down, yet he can’t stay away from her. Their story was sweet and funny and a little different because he didn’t get to reveal his secret in his own time, things just happened. I really loved these characters and their story.

Samantha is a disgraced former FBI profiler who was drummed out of the Bureau when she discovered her lover was the elusive serial killer she’d failed to stop. Her boss thought she was working with him and went after the wrong guy on purpose. She retreats to a solitary life on another coast, determined to start over, but he’s still out there and he’ll never let her go. Her only support is her adoptive father, the local chief of police, and her former partner, but he wants more than just to be partners again. This story was good and had a few twists but there were no surprises here and I found Samantha to be a little stiff. I enjoyed it overall through and did go on to read the rest of the series.

This story is about Juliet, who’s really down on her luck, and Mason, a total cinnamon roll. They used to be roommates, but Mason bought himself a house with his great new job. He invites Juliet to stay with him because her current roommate is a monster, but he suggests she could make big money fast if she wanted to make some videos with him. She’s a little shocked when she finds out how Mason paid for his house and expensive car, but he’s hot and nobody will ever see her face, so she wants to take him up on the offer. They get along really well and have feelings for one another, but it doesn’t take long for lines to blur. This is short and sweet and I liked their story a lot.

This book is hugely popular, so I had to see what all the hype is about. The premise of the story fascinated me, and I really liked a lot about it, but the writing style really dragged for me. I found myself skimming much of the book. It’s a great idea with likeable characters and I loved the story line, but the execution fell flat for me.
