I’m happy to report that 2023 was another great year for books. There were so many new stories to enjoy from favorite authors and those who were new to me. Some of the authors I’ve just discovered include Echo Grayce, Maggie Mayhem, SL Scott, Pippa Grant, Parker S. Huntington and Kat Singleton, all of whom wrote some of my favorite books of the year.
There were plenty of great new stories from favorites as well. Adriana Locke continued and wrapped up the Carmichael Family, which is easily my favorite of her families. Bella Matthews wrapped up the Defiant Kings and jumped right into Playing To Win. Tracy Lorraine finally said goodbye to the Knight’s Ridge Empire (sob!) but gave us the Harrow Creek Hawks, which is an absolutely epic saga.
My Goodreads year in review only shows about 140 books read this year, but that’s about half of the actual number since my kindle stats show more than 270, which seems about right with the number of novellas and shorts I read. I’ve struggled to fix the problem to no avail, so my Goodreads 2023 recap is just incomplete this year and there’s nothing to be done about it. I wish it was correct because that would make for better graphics but aside from that, it really doesn’t matter.
Some of my favorite books of the year were: A Long Time Coming by Meghan Quinn, which is probably the best friends-to-lovers I’ve ever read. Hockey With Benefits by Tijan, which is my favorite FWB-to-lovers. The Sacrifice by Shantel Tessier, because Ty was everything I expected and more. Say You Love Me Again by Carrie Aarons is a second-chance story, which is a trope I usually don’t like but she did it so well and the characters were so amazing, it’s one of my favorite books of the year.
Forgot To Say Goodbye by SL Scott is in a similar category, this one is a surprise baby story though, which isn’t a favorite but ended up being a favorite here. Provoking Saint Nick by Echo Grayce, a laugh-out-loud novella that was pretty close to perfect. Let’s hope 2024 in books is as much fun. Happy new year!
