Review: A Little Luck by Tia Louise

Adam Stone is not a saint.
He’s six-foot-two, naughty blue eyes, cocky grin, and a bod blessed by the gods.
He’s a surfer, a soldier, a pilot, and he’s been my friend since I moved to our small town when we were just kids.

But another man took my hand.
He took my innocence, took my trust, and broke my heart.
I was young. I didn’t know love could be a weapon.
I didn’t know the hand that caressed you could also cut you.

Now that man is dead, and I’m a single-mom survivor wearing a mask so perfect, no one knows the truth. Trust doesn’t come easy, and surviving is a hard habit to break.

But when a plumbing disaster leaves me homeless, one night in Adam Stone’s (supposedly) empty bed changes everything.
I’ve hidden my scars so long, I don’t know how else to be, but I want to try.

I’m in love with Adam Stone. I love every glance, every wink, every protective touch…
He says he’s different. He says he loves me and my son, and he wants to take care of us.
I believe in this love.
All I need is a little luck.?

Piper and Adam have a complicated history although they’ve been close friends since childhood. When she needed him the most, he wasn’t there for her so she sent him away. He made a lot of mistakes but thanks to his brother Aiden, he joined the Navy and lived up to his potential in every way. He’s been back for years and the two are still close, but Piper won’t let anything happen between them. It’s not that she doesn’t want him, she does. Adam Stone is exactly what she wants in every possible way. They’re perfect together, he’s her other half and he loves her son fiercely. He’s also the only father figure Ryan has ever had and he loves uncle Adam just as much. But Piper has secrets she’s not ready to share and she’s not sure that she’ll ever be able to reveal them.

Adam is struggling because Piper continues to hold him at arms’ length. He honored her wishes to go away until he cleaned up his act and came back a better man. And he did it for her. He does everything he can to show his love and take care of her, as well as Ryan, but she still doesn’t want him. Despondent, Adam leaves again, determined to forget the woman who doesn’t want him, the one he thought was his future.

Their story is heartbreaking, but they work through it together in their own way and put the pain of the past behind them. Piper has so much strength and determination that I wondered if she was too strong at one point. I just wanted her to let people in and really open up and she finds her way eventually. Adam is pretty close to perfect and beats his brothers in every way.  He’s sweet without being sappy and the mouth on that man is amazing. I like all the books and characters in this series but these two are my favorite by far.
