But the more I come unraveled at the hands of Clay Johnson, the more trouble I have discerning what’s fake and what’s undoubtedly real — particularly, the way my heart flutters every time that breathtaking man touches me.
We set the rules. We put the safeguards in place.
But they say rules are meant to be broken.
They probably should have added that hearts are, too.
I’m a sucker for a good fake relationship and Giana and Clay’s story was exactly what I want from one. We have the shy, inexperienced heroine who wants to catch the eye of a certain guy who doesn’t know she exists. Clay wants to make his ex jealous in order to win her back and decides he can help Giana in the process so he proposes the scheme to her horror. But once she considers it, she can’t say no and once they start working it, she can’t believe the results.
The budding friendship between the two was so sweet and I love that Clay fell first. Giana was interested in him, although she never imagined it could turn into more. But he was gone over her long before she realized and it was so damn sweet. I loved everything about this story right up until nearly the end when one of the characters did something huge that seemed ridiculously out of character. It just didn’t fit at that point in the story, which was disappointing. But the error was quickly rectified so all’s well that ends well.
