Eli Bennett.
Magnetic. Outspoken. Infuriating.
Top ranked college quarterback. Sexy. Funny.
Oh, and now my ex-boyfriend.
When he makes me choose between him or a once in a lifetime opportunity, I surprise us both — and don’t choose him. He can’t tell me what to do. Besides, he’ll get over my so-called betrayal and we’ll be back together in no time.
But when I return from my European study abroad program, Eli is still angry. He wants me to apologize for leaving him. I want him to apologize for giving me an ultimatum. Looks like we’re at a standstill.
He’s playing the season of his life thanks to him channeling his anger into aggressiveness out on the field, and now he’s got NFL prospects. His every dream is coming true, but I know he misses me. He still wishes he had his parents’ approval. He’s on top of his game, but secretly, he’s miserable.
Until a life changing moment has us both reconsidering what we’re going to do with our lives. And if we’re going to end up…
Together.
We’ve all been waiting to see the fallout from Eli’s crazy ultimatum to Ava. Now we know and it’s not pretty, but can things be fixed? Not if it’s up to Eli. He was so infuriating early in this story, just completely blind to his own shortcomings. He takes Ava for granted, demands her full attention and expects unwavering support at any cost, yet he doesn’t even entertain the notion of treating her the way he expects to be treated. It’s hard to understand how anyone can be so arrogant when they’re so incredibly insecure but that sums up Eli perfectly.
Ava has the patience of a saint where Eli is concerned but she still has limits and every time she recognizes them, he seems to barrel through to destroy them. This story is so emotional and just hard because it’s so raw and real, but it’s ultimately about growth and trusting yourself and going after what you want in life. It was tough to read at points but I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what happened next to these two after everything they’ve been through together. It’s not always pretty but it needed to happen for them to mature and decide what they really need, from one another and from themselves.
As painful as it was in some places, it was all worth it for the epilogue. Throughout the story, I changed my mind multiple times about where I wanted it to go and how it should end, but I was thrilled that I ultimately got the ending I wanted the most. This is Eli and Ava’s story but it also gives us updates and insights into all of the couples, which was great. I especially loved the epilogue, where we get a short jump into the future to learn what everyone is up to and how their lives have unfolded. The end of a great series is always bittersweet but we really couldn’t ask for more because the ending was perfect. I’m not happy that it’s over but I wouldn’t have ended it any other way.
I received an ARC from Valentine PR in exchange for an honest review.
