PACK RULE #8: NEVER LIE TO YOUR MATE
I broke that rule the day I showed up on her doorstep.
I’m sworn to protect my kind from any kind of threat.
As a human, she thought I was there on friendly business.
Didn’t know I meant to take down her shifter boss.
I didn’t know she’d flip my world upside down.
One whiff of her scent, and I was lost. No–found.
I couldn’t leave without her. So, I spent the night. Made her fall for me.
But she doesn’t know what I am. What I’ve done.
I’m not just a ranch hand–I’m a shifter enforcer.
The clock is ticking before I have to finish the job.
I must win my mate’s heart and claim her before the lies catch up to me.
Before she finds out what I am and what I have done.
Or what I will do to keep her safe.
And mine.
I never get enough of this series and the latest couple from Wolf Ranch is no exception. Emma is the good twin, the responsible adult and hard worker who pays all her bills on time and never has any fun. She considers herself the boring twin compared to her free-spirited, nomadic sister. When Emma realizes that her work environment is toxic and she deserves better, she quits, leaving LA to join Lyssa in Montana, just as her twin suggested. But when she arrives, Lyssa is jetting off to paradise with a hot sultan, so Emma decides to hang around, pretending to be her twin, who is the caretaker for the ranch.
It seems like a harmless enough little white lie. After all, she’s doing exactly what Lyssa does at the ranch, which is practically nothing aside from bringing in the mail each day. Emma has no idea “her” boss, the billionaire owner of the ranch, is a very bad man, a wanted man. When a hot cowboy appears on the doorstep looking for her absentee boss, the attraction between them is off the charts. For once, Emma doesn’t want to be the predictable good girl, she wants to be the impulsive siren having the best night of her life, so she throws caution to the wind and rides this cowboy. After all, he’s a stranger and this is just a fling, so she’s happy to let him think she’s Lyssa because posing as her adventurous twin is just the thing Emma needs to let loose.
Johnny knows instantly that this gorgeous stranger is his mate, but he also knows that, as a human, she has no idea about fated mates or shifters. He has to tell her everything but must do it without scaring her away since he needs to keep her safe above all else. Their story is super steamy and full of hot cowboys and even includes a spicy cameo from the men of the Two Marks pack. All that is to say, I loved everything about Emma and Johnny’s story. I’d like to thank the authors and Literally Yours PR for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
