Review: Cluelessly Yours by Max Monroe

The bad news? Getting hit by a cab can officially get crossed off my bucket list.

The worse news? While I’ve woken up from my coma, the man I’m in love with hasn’t stirred from his.

And the most terrible news of all? A pregnant woman is at his bedside, holding his hand, and saying that he’s the father of her baby.

Sammy Baker is a divorced, single mom trying to find her way again. With two boys and an absent ex-husband, she’s got the world on her shoulders and Legos under her feet.

Amid the chaos lives the dream of, one day, finding love again.

Though, she didn’t think that would land her smack-dab in the middle of two men.

Will Sammy choose the successful businessman who doesn’t hesitate to tell her he’s interested? Or will she go for the eligible bachelor doctor with a constant influx of women vying for his attention?

The smart choice and what the heart wants are two different things. And sometimes, fate has a way of making it so the choice isn’t ours at all.

You have to admit, that blurb really paints a picture, so I was excited for this story. I also went into this with a bunch of preconceived notions and thought I knew what was coming, but nothing happened the way I expected. Love triangles aren’t a favorite, but these authors are masters, so I gave it a chance and I’m so glad. Sammy is a 40-something divorcee with two small boys she’s raising alone, since her ex-husband is a deadbeat in every way. She recently moved to New York for a fresh start near her sister, Brooke. The famous author is madly in love and wants her sister to find love too, so she goes to great lengths to set Sammy up with her friend Noah, a hot single doctor.

Noah is tough to resist, but Sammy’s world is in turmoil and she’s juggling life as a single mom, so dating is the last thing on her mind. She meets Gavin at work, and he pursues her relentlessly, but he’s sweet and considerate so she can’t say no. He says and does all the right things despite her obvious reluctance to get involved so they start casually dating. But she’s also having constant run-ins with Noah and the mutual attraction there is undeniable, so Sammy isn’t sure what to do. She struggles with a decision but knows she has to choose one, but just as she makes a decision, fate laughs in her face and turns her whole world on its head.

She’s broken it off with one of the guys and had THE BEST date with the other when a woman appears at his front door to announce her pregnancy. Distraught, Sammy runs away, not paying attention and steps right into the path of a speeding vehicle. Her man saves her by taking the brunt of the impact but he’s unconscious when Sammy wakes up in the hospital and the pregnant woman is at his side, telling the staff she needs to be there for her boyfriend.

Nothing in this story happened exactly as expected, which made it so much fun. The characters all turned out to be more than what they first appeared and kept surprising me as the story went on. And it kept me turning pages, unable to put the book down because I had to know what happened next. This one is different and so very good, it’s a great example of why the authors are favorites: I love everything they write, and Sammy’s story is no exception.
