Review: The Knockout by Bella Matthews

We all have dirty secrets. Some are just more fun to hide than others.

Ares Wilder is a so-called bad boy. A ladies man. The teammate most likely to fight both on and off the ice. And now this devastatingly dark and handsome hockey player with a sinful smile and a filthy mouth is my twin sister’s new brother-in-law, landing him firmly in the forbidden category.

Only he doesn’t see it that way.

Resisting him should be no big deal, right?
At least that’s what I thought…

Until one night, he manages to look past the illusion I’d spent a lifetime perfecting and see the broken girl behind the pink satin pointe shoes.

We were the perfect storm I never wanted to escape.
But with secrets piling up and my world crashing down, will Ares be one more thing I destroy?

I was interested in meeting Grace since it felt like we didn’t know anything about her beyond the “good twin” label. It turns out that is how Grace defines herself since she’s such a people pleaser. She’s not Grace Sinclair, she’s a sister, daughter, friend and dancer first, so what she wants seems to fall through the cracks. Ares is the first person to ever notice how she hides her true self and never puts Grace first so he tells her to do better for herself.

Despite their strong connection, Grace doesn’t believe it could be real. They’re too different and separated by an entire ocean. Plus his brother is married to her twin, so that makes them off-limits to each other. Or does it? Ares sure doesn’t think so, but he knows Grace is struggling with a lot of decisions about her life, so he’s determined to show her that this is the start of something.

I really loved these characters and Ares Wilder gets a top spot on the book boyfriend list. Their story is sweet and steamy and just perfect for them. I couldn’t put this book and read it through in one sitting because it’s just that good. I’d like to thank the author for providing an ARC so I could read this early because I love this series so much.
