Word to the wise, never become roommates with a girl you’ve been pining over for the better part of a year.
You’re probably wondering why I would do such a thing? Well, I didn’t.
It was my teammates.
The moment they found out Blakely White was single, they took it upon themselves to play cupid and instruct me on how I should win her over.
Don’t wear a shirt around her.
Make her dinner.
Lightly touch her shoulder when you say goodbye.
I’m so flustered, so overwhelmed, so madly in love with this woman who barely notices me, that I lose control of the situation and make one huge mistake: I offer to be her fake date for a wedding so she can make her ex jealous.
That means, for one whole night I get a free pass with her. I get to hold her, dance with her, kiss her…stare at her from across the room like she’s my entire world because she has been for months now.
But when the night comes to an end, I’m faced with two options: bring her back to my bedroom and show her how I really feel, or let her walk away, succumbing to the fact that I very well might not be her type.
I love the Vancouver Agitators and was thrilled to finally get Halsey’s story. He lost his twin a few years ago and he’s still mired in grief, but there’s a lot more to his story. Halsey is lucky to be surrounded by awesome friends to help him get past his heartbreak. He was a goner the very first time he laid eyes on Blakely and just talking to her made him happy for the first time since losing Holden. His hopes were dashed almost instantly though when she mentioned a boyfriend. Halsey knew nothing would ever happen between them, but he still enjoyed being around her, even if it was tough on him. His friends watched him pine for her for over a year so when she finally broke up with her ex, they worked hard to force Blakely and Halsey together. The perfect opportunity arose when her new apartment flooded so they quickly offered Halsey’s place as an alternative.
He needed the help because he was incredibly awkward and tongue-tied around Blakely. Despite being one of the best players in the league who could have any woman he wanted, he had none of his usual confidence with her. Making them roommates was step one, then next they were plotting ways to make her fall for him. His friends are eager to help and have the best of intentions but sometimes caused more problems than they fixed. See: main hole, IYKYK.
Halsey and Blakely become great friends and soon they both want more but neither is willing to take the leap. He’s afraid to make a move and she doesn’t want to jump into a new relationship right away so they each convince themselves this crush will wane. Of course, that doesn’t happen, which is great since I love these two together. Their story is funny and sweet and smoking hot. I lost count of how many times I laughed out loud while reading this book. Penny and the guys brought so much to the story, but Blakely and Halsey are by far my favorite couple of them all. I’d like to thank the author for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
