Review: Carnage by Shantel Tessier

A PUPPET

The men in the secret society known as the Lords think they rule the world. And in a way, they do. Each has sold their soul to the devil at a young age in exchange for power and wealth. Like anything else, they have different levels of success. The more they’re willing to serve, the more power they have.

Among them are the Spade brothers, who run Carnage. It’s where the Lords who have not held up their oath go to live out the rest of their lives in shackles. Tucked away from the world as if they never existed.

I VOW. YOU VOW. WE VOW.

I once belonged to a Lord—Saint Beckham Carter. Although nothing was holy about him, I still kneeled as if he could grant me eternity in a world where only evil existed.

At the time, I willingly vowed to be his and allowed him to share me with his “brothers.” But things changed. And what I thought couldn’t get any better got exceptionally worse. So I did the only thing I could and ran from him, knowing I could never return.

Now he’s found me and dragged me back to his hell, where he will make me his pet. The world already thinks I’m dead, so no one will miss me. And I’m just another name on a long list of those who will never know freedom.

What he doesn’t know is why I ran from him in the first place. A Lord doesn’t listen to reason, so it’s not like he’d care anyway. Saint was born a Lord, and he will die as one.

If life has taught me anything, it’s that we all pay for our sins. And Saint will never let me forget that my place is at Carnage, serving him on my knees until death is granted.

Are you ready for Saint Beckham Carter? I thought I knew what the Spade Brothers were all about, but there’s a lot more to it than we knew. This story is amazing. Ash and Saint have been through it all. Their story was even darker than the other Lords and Ladies in a lot of ways. I didn’t think anything could shock me anymore in this world, but Saint and Ash did. It was definitely a wild ride but that’s also a complete understatement. There was a lot of action throughout but the last five or ten percent was just, wow. Everything finally made sense. These two had so many ups and downs, especially Ashtyn. Not only was she in this rollercoaster ride of a crazy relationship with Saint, but her family life was a mess, and her friendships were all in upheaval.

It’s hard to know who to trust in this world and she knows that better than anyone, so she had a lot of tough decisions to make. Ash and Saint had been in love with one another for years, but she wasn’t sure how he felt, and he didn’t know if he could keep her. The Lords seem to destroy everything you love as their way of keeping people in line, so it’s not as easy as simply loving each other and choosing to be together.

This book is long and dark and one of the dirtiest things I’ve ever read, and I loved every minute of it. I couldn’t put this book down, it kept me awake because I had to know what happened next but it was everything I wanted and more. This world and these characters are nothing short of amazing. There’s not much I can say without giving away too much, but I can tell you this connects to some of the author’s other worlds and that was so much fun. I can’t wait for the rest of the Spade Brothers stories, they can’t come soon enough. I’d like to thank the author and Candi Kane PR for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
