My family tried to break me. But, somehow, I made it out alive, even though the wounds from that survival are forever carved into my bones. Now, my only wish is for…normal. To know what it’s like to have friends, a job, a home.
The last thing I want is for my new roommate to see the scars I’m so desperate to keep hidden, especially not the ruggedly handsome man who steals my breath and sends my heart into overdrive.
But something tells me that Beckett has demons, too. I see it in the shadows haunting his gorgeous eyes and the way he looks at me with gentle understanding.
As our unlikely friendship becomes so much more, forces from my life slink out of the shadows. And we could both lose everything we’ve fought so hard for—down to our very last breaths…
I love this series and was especially excited to read Addie’s story. She broke my heart in Everly’s book so I’ve been waiting for her chance to be happy. Yes, she’s free of her father but was she really living? Addie was grateful to be on her own but she knew there was more for her, she just didn’t know how to find it. She’s been through so much with her abusive father and is still struggling to come to terms with her mother’s abandonment. Addie was so timid and happy to cut herself off from the world so I was curious to see what would bring her out of her shell. The answer is Beckett. She wasn’t sure she could share a space with this stranger but he put her at ease instantly.
They just meshed so effortlessly that Addie’s shyness didn’t hold her back. Beckett was always safe so she could be herself in a way she never had with anyone before. He was also fun, drawing her out to try new things and enjoy herself in new ways. The more she tried, the bolder she grew. I loved watching her come into herself and realize who she was, finally. Beckett had his own demons to wrangle but supporting her gave him the strength to face them. He was preoccupied with his own perceived failures initially but focusing on Addie gave him some distance from his own problems and that helped him cope better than ever before.
This series is a favorite, so I always want more, but I still loved the ending. Their story is steamy and sweet, with more than a little suspense and the exact HEA I wanted for these two. I received an ARC from Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review.
