Monsters don’t hide in dark alleys.
They lurk in plain sight, clawing into your soul with cordial smiles.
They wear Armani, they drive Cadillacs, they attend fundraising balls…
And they rule the city with a merciless fist.
The Familia is a mystery to most,
and sitting on its throne is Kage Malvagio.
Some say: Ask for forgiveness, never permission.
Kage asks for neither.
Especially when he gets his hands on me.
I should hate him.
I should run at the first chance I get.
But how could the devil be so bad when he looks at me like that?
I’m picky when it comes to mafia romance so I’m never sure what to expect when an author is new to me but I loved every minute of this story. Saxon is a rich, pampered, pre-med college student living a charmed life. She has no warning of the trouble coming but she’s a hellcat who puts up a fight. I love the way she handles things and rises to the occasion when things get tough.
Kage is a monster but he definitely has appeal. He’s a typical hot, filthy-mouthed alpha mafia guy but he also likes to describe his very inventive means of torturing enemies and sending them messages. Everything about this book was entertaining and kept me turning the pages. Even though I loathe cliffhangers, there was one twist I didn’t see coming shortly before the end and I loved it, so that made the cliffy much more bearable.
That said, this is a very short book so my only complaint is that it should be one long book instead of a duet but I’m super impatient and maybe some of you enjoy the suspense of waiting for the next release. I’m pretty sure I already figured out a couple of crucial points meant to be a surprise in the next book, but the author surprised me once so maybe more twists are coming. Either way, I can’t wait for the conclusion. I received an ARC from Social Butterfly PR in exchange for an honest review.
